Michael Shaps Wine Dinner

Michael ShapsJoin us for a 5-course dinner with wine pairings at $88 per person with your wine host Michael Shaps on Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 6:00 PM for cocktails and 7:00 PM for dinner.

Michael Shaps has been making wine in central Virginia since 1995. He previously worked with two highly regarded central Virginia wineries – Jefferson Vineyards, and King Family Vineyards. He currently works as a consultant to wineries in several states and has been involved in the startup of more than ten wineries. He was the winner of the Virginia Governor’s Cup Wine Competition in 2004 and has been mentioned in numerous wine publications such as Saveur, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate, Washingtonian, and The Washington Post. Michael is also a partner in Maison Shaps & Roucher-Sarrazin in Meursault, France. Michael oversees all Virginia Wineworks operations and works with partner Philip Stafford on strategic planning for the winery. He holds a BPA (Brevet Professionnel Agricole) in Enology and Viticulture from Lycée Viticole de Beaune, France. In addition, he has a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Skidmore College.

On Monday, July 29, Clifton “gets down on it” with southern fare from Richmond chefs, Joe Sparatta from Heritage, which earned a rare four-star review from The Richmond Times-Dispatch; Tim Bereika from the 2012 Richmond Magazine Elby Award winner for “Best Wine Program,” Secco Wine Bar; and Jason Alley who has often been credited with helping to re-shape the dining scene in Richmond with the opening of his restaurants, Comfort and Pasture, will head west to join chef Tucker Yoder for an evening of exceptional southern-inspired culinary offerings. The summer dinner will also feature pigs from Autumn Olive Farm in nearby Waynesboro, Virginia and guests will receive a jar of BBQ seasoning to take home with them.

Chef’s Counter

Chef speaking with dinersClifton’s chef’s counter offers a unique dining experience in Charlottesville, with front row seats to a culinary cabaret. Perfectly positioned and graciously appointed in our newly-redesigned kitchen, the counter seats up to 7 guests* and offers a meal to remember.

You’ll enjoy our chef’s multi-course menu while engaging with our culinary team.

*A $400 minimum food and beverage spend is required to reserve the Chef’s Counter.

Wine Cellar

Wine CellarLooking for a unique and cool place to host a small private family, birthday or business dinner? Look no further!  Our Wine Cellar is the perfect room to make your next private event of 20 guests or less a huge success!

Verandah & Terrace

Our sun-filled Verandah, pictured on the right, is where our in-house guests are served breakfast; seasonal outdoor dining on our adjacent covered Terrace is also available.  These two areas, which are reserved as one space, offer a wonderfully unique location for a small wedding reception, rehearsal dinner or larger gathering.  Our Verandah can seat a maximum of 60 guests and ournewly renovated Terrace can accommodate 130 additional people; our Terrace is tented, April through October.  The Verandah and Terrace offer unique private cocktail and dinner spaces.

Our restaurant includes another room, the Dining Room, which can be reserved as a private space for an event or dinner of 40 guests or less.  It is a great, cozy location for a business meeting or a rehearsal dinner.  It features a fireplace, hardwood floors and a private restroom for added convenience.  This versatile space allows for multiple set-up options, including u-shape, theatre or banquet style.

Room Service

Room service is available from 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM.

A full menu is available for breakfast  and lunch.

Clifton’s restaurant menu or terrace menu is available daily during regular dinner hours.
